Humana Military was founded in 1993.  It was founded by Humana as Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS) and is a wholly owned subsidiary.  HMHS was the managed care contractor for the Department of Defense Military Health System TRICARE Region.  They take care of over 40% of their beneficiaries.  In 2011, HMHS had a contract to administer medical benefits to military members and families in the East Region.  The contract was worth $23.5 billion. 

It has been over 20 years since Humana Military created improved health outcomes and simple experiences for millions of beneficiaries across the United States through TRICARE and other military healthcare programs. They assist MHS, VHA and other federal agencies in operating an integrated healthcare delivery system combining resources of the agencies’ assets and their managed care support.
