Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW) started in 1992 and was founded by Washington’s Community Health Centers.  They pioneered the not-for-profit managed care plan that is founded by Community Health Centers in the state.  Community Health Plan of Washington has a goal to present services that will help in supporting the health and well-being of their members.  This is done by either directly or via collaboration with their value community-based providers.

During the early days of the pandemic, their people reached out to their Medicare Advantage members twice to ask about their situation and to know they are safe.  During one of the calls, some members were assisted on issues like cable shut down and safe meal deliveries.  CHPW’s staff assisted the member turn their cable back on while the other member was connected to a local restaurant that offers free lunches to seniors in the community.

CHPW Medicare Advantage is different from other plans in the area because CHPW aims to offer inexpensive health care but of excellent quality for everyone.  The plans are created with their members’ needs in mind, giving them the support they need along the way.

CHPW offers Medicare Advantage to the beneficiaries in the community.  The following is just a few of the benefits available to the members:

• CHPW Virtual Care
  • This is CHPW’s telehealth service that will assist in making sure that members get the care they need, when they need it the most.  This feature will enable members to speak to a licensed doctor any time of day or night.  
• Transportation
  • This feature will allow members the assistance for transportation in their daily life, and resources are always available to assist them.  Transportation vouchers for public transit or gas may be available.
• Fitness Program
  • CHPW has partnered with Silver&Fit in their 2021 fitness program benefit.  This will offer more choices to help in starting exercise at home or in the neighborhood they choose.
• Post Discharge Meals
  • There are times when a member has to be confined in a hospital or skilled nursing facility and may take a while to make things back to normal.  CHPW has Post-Discharge Meals benefit that will enable to have meals delivered at their door.
• Over-the-Counter Benefit
  • Members may get to spend a money allowance quarterly for their over-the-counter health products.  All the items that are ordered will be delivered to their home by mail.
• And many more!

This is a program that will enable you to acquire over-the-counter items that will arrive at your address in the mail.  The card must be activated and the initial OTC dollar amount will be loaded onto the card.  This benefit will also assist you with the cost of essential health care products that are not within the medical or pharmacy expense under your plan.  To add to this, it can aid you in saving money on a vast array of generic branded health essential products like cold medicines, pain relievers, dental care, first aid supplies, and so much more.

If you will use the credit or pre-determined allowance that is provided within this benefit, all products you wish to get will be given to you at no extra cost.  Your orders will also be delivered to your home without worrying about shipping fee as these will all be covered by the benefit.

Community Health Plan of Washington Medicare Advantage works with DrugSource Inc. that will allow their members to purchase common everyday medical and personal health care essentials.  Their team of clinicians, researchers, engineers, financial experts, and a great number of direct sales representatives have outstanding expertise and know everything about healthcare business.

Members must make sure to review the Summary of Benefits of their existing personal plan to verify if their plan has this benefit included in it.  If it does, members must also be aware of the plan’s specified OTC allowance frequency, whether it is provided monthly or quarterly.  The allowance amount may vary depending on the plan.  The number to contact is given at the start of this article if you need further information about your plan benefits.

There are a few plans that are inclusive of an allowance that is provided on a monthly basis.  These credits may be consumed to purchase some over-the-counter medications and supplies, comprising of digestive health treatments, allergy medication, pain relievers, first aid supplies, and so many more.  Members must review the Evidence of Coverage of their plan to check if it is included in their benefit and to find out the exact amount of the monthly allowance provided.

An email verification will appear in your inbox once you have registered successfully.  This will give you complete access to your online account and start taking advantage of Community Health Plan of Washington Medicare Advantage OTC pharmacy benefits that is included in your plan.

• Delivery Time:  Please allow 7-10 business days for your items to be sent to your address.
• Members have to ensure that the shipping address is the same as their member address with CHPW.  Otherwise, members have to contact CHPW Customer Service at 1-800-942-0247, TTY: 711.
• A maximum of two orders may be done every month.  The entire benefit allowance must be consumed before each quarter ends.  The order total may not exceed their quarterly benefit amount.  Cash, checks, credit cards, or money orders are not accepted under the OTC benefit.
• The OTC products are intended for the use of the member only to assist in their health or medical needs.  CHPW prohibits the use of this benefit to purchase OTC items for family members and / or friends.
• Return Policy: Due to the personal nature of the products, returns will not be accepted.  Any loss or stolen item will not be refundable and will not be replaced.
